In this project, students will apply the concepts and theory of database models, with particular emphasis on the relational model to a database challenge of your choice. They will execute database designs utilizing Entity-Relationship Modeling, functional dependencies, and database table normalization. Students use Structured Query Language (SQL) and SQL statements to design, query and maintain databases.

Strategic Marketing Decision Making

This semester students working in small groups will apply their knowledge in marketing to helping your organization seize a marketing opportunity, develop a strategic marketing plan, or solve a current marketing challenge. The students will use marketing research, strategy, and marketing best practices to create a report and presentation. We are looking to partner with clients only in BC, Alberta, or Ontario (please only submit your project if you are located in one of these provinces).

In this project, student-consultant working in teams will audit, analyze, research, and then provide actionable recommendations on an organizational challenge that you feel could use some improvements. Our students come from all backgrounds in the Business department including HR, Marketing, Accounting, and more! I will be confirming client projects in November/December. Our students will be reviewing these client projects starting in January, and we will confirm the student (or group of students) that choose to work on your project by January 8th.

Advanced Readings in International Business and Economics

Do you have a product or service you're looking to expand internationally? Would you like to gain a better understanding of the international market within which you operate? In this project, student-consultants working in small teams will analyze the current international business environment in your specific industry and the opportunities and challenges you face. Students will then apply their knowledge best practices of small and medium enterprises and multinationals in developed, emerging, and developing countries and common markets towards addressing your challenges and capitalizing on your opportunities. The students will develop a report and presentation for your organization upon completion of the project.
Virtual Interns in Technical Management and Services

Virtual Internship Opportunity: Improve the use of technical services in your business: Bring on one or up to 4 students from KPU, who are finishing their Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Technical Management and Services to be your paid interns. This is a paid project-based experience. Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the internship period, up to 320 hours over a 4 months period, connecting with you as requested over using virtual communication tools. Students are available from January 11, 2021 till April 23, 2021. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will only occur virtually, but should the situation change, we can discuss other options. Our students are located in BC (Lower Mainland).

Product Design - Reverse Engineering/Re-design

Do you have a product design challenge you would like to tackle? In this project students will work on an unused or broken product in order to disassemble and analyse. Products for this project could be (but not limited to) power tools (drills, jigsaws, etc); home appliances (blender, toaster, coffee maker, desk fan, electric oven, lamps, etc); electronics (microphones, headphones, radio/CD players, keyboards, etc). The product to work with must be discussed with the instructor PRIOR any work starts, the students must have clearance by the instructor to start disassembling the product as safety considerations like toxic materials or explosive gases may be present in some products. All disassembling processes must be made with safety as the highest importance, be sure to wear protective equipment (gloves and googles or ideally face shield). NGOs / Nonprofit Project Work

Are you an NGO or Nonprofit with a challenge you would like to tackle? Students will come to understand the various roles that NGOs fill in providing services, promoting particular values, forming the basis for community self-help initiatives, or campaigning on public issues. Students will analyze, and demonstrate their familiarity with organizational behaviours and practices. This is a required course for KPU's Certificate in NGO and Nonprofit Studies.
Computer Hardware and Software Analysis

Would you like to get a better understanding of your current computer hardware and software or are you looking to upgrade your systems? In this course, groups of students bring their knowledge of computer hardware and software concepts to help your organization address your hardware and/or software questions. Students will be able to compare differences between hardware used in enterprise, personal, and mobile computing devices. They will also study the functions of operating systems and device drivers and will be provided an overview of popular application software. The students will develop a report and presentation for your organization upon completion of the project.
Projects in Physics and Technology

Our students are 3rd and 4th year projects in our unique Physics for Modern Technology program. This is a 1 semester course where students work on individual projects in physics and technology (ideally with a focus on R&D). This year we are particularly looking focusing on projects involving computer modelling, simulation or data analysis . Students would generally work on their own consulting regularly with members of your team and having weekly project meetings we the rest of the class to discuss progress and brainstorm ideas.
Mechatronics Practicum

During the final term in the second year of the Mechatronics and Advanced Manufacturing Technology (MAMT) Diploma program, students will be completing the course MAMT 1400 “Professional Skills and Work Practicum.” In conjunction with the course MAMT 1400, students will be in need of an employer to sponsor them in a practicum placement to gain field experience related to their studies. This is an unpaid practicum placement and students will have WCB insurance through KPU. We are desirous of establishing relationships with companies that are involved in manufacturing, control systems, automation, automated warehousing, automated processes, robotics, equipment testing, and equipment maintenance, etc. In forming these relationships, we are eager to find companies that would be interested in continuing these practicum placements from year to year. Placement will be completed in-person (following all necessary COVID-19 restrictions) and therefore must be based in BC, Canada.
Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Technologies

Do you have a building design challenge that you would like to tackle? In this project, student-consultants working in small groups will apply their knowledge in Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Technologies to help your organization to develop the design and then prepare a site plan, building plans, schematics, sections and details for a commercial building. They will use glazing and storefront components, apply codes and standards, and prepare interior and exterior elevations. Students will develop schedules and specifications, explain coordination procedures to ensure completion of the project, and give a presentation of the project. They will explain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards and its applications.
Green and Clean Technologies for Business and Society's Sustainability

Corporate social responsibility is a growing trend; what has your organization done to keep up? In this project, students will analyze your organization’s environmental, social, or economic sustainability initiatives as well as inspect the use of any green technologies used within the organization. Students will provide recommendations on how your organization can improve their use of green technologies. This may include new sustainability initiatives and a report of recommendations for green technologies that could be used.
Fashion Design and Technology Professional Practicum

Students engage in professional industry practices through this fashion industry based workplace practicum.
